Initial Visit to See Your Garden and Understand Your Vision

Whether you have your heart set on a relaxing country garden or a contemporary open-plan space for entertaining – the first step is to get in touch with us. We’ll personalise your designs to suit your individual needs, so it is essential that we get to know you and fully understand what you want to achieve. We will make an appointment to visit so we can see your garden for ourselves.

The design process begins as soon as we step into your garden, as our experts get a feel for your garden and assess how you currently use your space. One of the first things we will talk to you about is your budgets. What most people don’t know is that, in the garden design world, budgets are not in relation to the scale of your project! Sometimes the largest of landscapes can be changed with the smallest of budgets providing all your resources are cleverly maximised, so understanding how much you want to spend is essential from the beginning.

Landscape Design Proposal

 

Once we’ve collected all the information we need from you, we’ll head back to our offices and put together a comprehensive design proposal. Once completed, we’ll present you with a clearly defined design brief, a quotation for our design fees and the overall cost of the project, along with some estimated build timescales and a detailed Site Survey & Analysis.

When you have confirmed you are happy with everything, a site survey will be conducted to measure all the dimensions in your garden, which will either be done by ourselves or a surveyor. We will assess your garden for any underground services such as electrical, gas, telecoms and water, and take note of soil conditions.

Concept Plan

This is where we can unleash our creativity! Using the measurements and the information we collected from your survey, we’ll reimagine your space and design an initial concept for your garden. No detail is overlooked; every landscape is created with the highest care and attention, using our extensive experience to fulfil all your requirements. During this time, we’ll arrange another consultation with you, where we can keep you updated, show you material samples and talk to you about any final design revisions.

Planting Plans

Plants are an essential part of your garden’s design. They can draw the eye to create focal features, add height and structure to a border or hide unsightly areas from view. Planting is always needed to some degree, working to soften the hard landscaping aspects of your design or accentuate different zones. Still, we select each plant for their ability to contribute to the wider design, either for their seasonal colour, texture, pattern, scent or shape. Evergreen plants are added to help provide foliage all year round. All the plants need to complement and balance each other to achieve a breath-taking aesthetic.

Many people don’t realise, but plants are one of the most expensive elements of a garden. It is essential to get this part of the design right to avoid costly errors. No matter what kind of light, soil type or weather exposure your landscape has, by positioning the right plants in the right place, your garden will continue to flourish long after the Greenstone Landscapes team have finished their work.

The Final Design

Once we have made sure that you are happy with every detail of your design, we’ll provide you with a finalised planting plan and landscape design which will be in colour. Also, you’ll receive detailed construction drawings which show a cross-section view of your design and material specifications.

These drawings come in handy when the time comes to build your garden, with all the details of your design laid out clearly. Defined instructions result in a quick and easy build without any hold-ups, making it a seamless process for everyone involved.
